On a recent episode of her podcast misSPELLING, the actress had a brutally honest conversation with her co-host, Amy Sugarman, about the condition of her house. The discussion came after Spelling revealed she had been seriously ill for eight weeks, leaving her unable to work.
Sugarman didn’t hold back.
She told Spelling that her “disorganized” lifestyle and messy home could be part of the reason she gets sick so often. According to Sugarman, Spelling has an “extreme” problem with letting things go — and it’s affecting her health.
During the episode, Spelling admitted she feels overwhelmed while caring for her five children. She shared that her living room had turned into what she called a “gifting suite,” filled with piles of items. At Sugarman’s request, she took a photo of the space and sent it over.
Sugarman was shocked by what she saw.
“Tori, this is not good,” she said, pointing out that Spelling’s Christmas tree was still up. She added that while the room had beautiful shelves and décor underneath, it was impossible to enjoy.
“You can’t even sit in there,” Sugarman said. “Like, it’s borderline hoarder. I’m not gonna lie.”
Spelling agreed, admitting the items were just “sitting here in piles.” Sugarman claimed there were “400 stacks” of clutter throughout the house and said the situation seemed like a serious problem.
While Spelling insisted the living room was the worst area, she also made a telling confession — she wouldn’t feel comfortable hosting anyone important at her home.
“I stopped having people over,” said the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star. She even joked that she wouldn’t invite someone over if the president of iHeartRadio asked for a meeting.
Spelling reflected on her past marriage to Dean McDermott, saying the house was much more presentable when they lived together. She explained that McDermott wouldn’t tolerate the chaos — and at the time, she also had help.
Sugarman encouraged her to seek support again, saying the clutter and stress likely played a role in Spelling being unable to work for two months.
“This is chaos,” Sugarman said. “I really think it all contributes.”
Spelling and McDermott, who split in June 2023 after nearly 18 years of marriage, share five children: Liam, 18, Stella, 17, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and Beau, 8. Their divorce was finalized in November, when court documents revealed the former couple owes more than $1.7 million in unpaid federal and state taxes.
For Spelling, the candid conversation appears to be a turning point — one that could lead to real change, both for her home and her health.
