Teyana Taylor Reveals Sweet ‘Instant Bestie’ Bond With Julia Roberts After Emotional Golden Globes Meeting

Teyana Taylor is still glowing from a dream-come-true moment with her longtime idol, Julia Roberts.

In the middle of a whirlwind awards season, the Oscar-nominated One Battle After Another star has been collecting trophies and praise. But according to Taylor, nothing compares to finally meeting the Pretty Woman icon face-to-face.

Ahead of accepting the Virtuosos Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Taylor opened up about her emotional encounter with Roberts at the 2026 Golden Globes.

“Everybody knows that I love Julia Roberts. I'm obsessed with her,” Taylor said.

When Roberts was brought over to greet her on the red carpet, Taylor admitted she didn’t know how to react.

“I looked, and I started backing up, and my eyes was watering, and she was coming closer,” she shared. “I was like, ‘Don’t come an inch closer.’”

But instead of keeping her distance, Taylor ended up diving straight into Roberts’ arms.

“It was just so amazing,” she said, adding that they became “instant besties.”

Photos from the event show the two actresses hugging warmly on the red carpet, looking like old friends.

The sweet moment didn’t end there. Later that night, when Taylor won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, Roberts stood up to cheer her on.

“She was standing up when I won and I just dived into her arms again,” Taylor said. “So yeah, she’s my bestie in my head, even if she don’t know it.”

Addressing the ‘Eat a Sandwich’ Comment

Taylor previously spoke about her Golden Globes interaction with Roberts during an appearance on The Tonight Show. A viral clip showed Roberts joking about Taylor’s “teeny tiny” waist and telling her she needed to “eat a sandwich.”

Some social media users criticized the comment as insensitive. But Taylor quickly defended Roberts.

“She told me I needed a sandwich because she couldn’t find my waist,” Taylor explained. “It was so cute.”

According to Taylor, the moment was playful and full of warmth — not criticism.
