In a video shared Tuesday, the Today show co-anchor said the 24 days since her 84-year-old mother disappeared have been “agony.” Nancy was taken from her bed during the night on Feb. 1, Savannah said.
“We have been fearing for her and aching for her and most of all just missing her,” she said.
Savannah acknowledged that her family understands her mother may no longer be alive. “We need to know where she is. We need her to come home,” she said.
The reward was previously set at $100,000. The family is now offering $1 million for information that leads to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest.
In addition, the Guthrie family is donating $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Savannah said they hope the attention on their case will also help other families searching for loved ones.
Nancy was last seen on Jan. 31 after having dinner with family. She was reported missing the next day when she did not attend a virtual church service.
Chris Nanos, the Pima County sheriff leading the investigation, has said he believes Nancy was kidnapped. Surveillance video shows a masked intruder outside her home. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive, including whether it was for money or revenge.
Authorities have received up to 50,000 tips so far. An FBI spokesperson recently said a recovered glove appears to match those worn by the armed person seen in the surveillance footage, and DNA testing is ongoing.
Savannah ended her message with a plea for help: “Please be the light in the dark. If you know something, come forward.”
