Peacock Developing ‘Bride Wars’ TV Series Starring Emma Roberts

Peacock is heading back down the aisle with a fresh take on Bride Wars.

The streaming service is developing a TV series inspired by the 2009 romantic comedy that starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. This time, Emma Roberts will lead the project and serve as an executive producer.

Unlike the original film, which followed two lifelong best friends battling over the same wedding date, the new version shifts the focus to wedding planners.

A New Rivalry at the Center

In the updated series, Roberts will play a big-city wedding planner who relocates to a small town in North Carolina. Her arrival sparks a fierce rivalry with a well-loved local wedding planner.

According to the official logline, the two women end up fighting to plan the same wedding. What starts as professional competition soon turns into a deeper clash over friendship, community, and love.

The show is described as a “fresh, loose reimagining” rather than a direct remake.

Creative Team Behind the Series

The project comes from New Regency, which produced the original film. Co-studios include 20th Television and Universal Content Productions (UCP).

Sascha Rothchild, known for her work on XO, Kitty and GLOW, is writing the new adaptation. She will also executive produce.

Additional executive producers include Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann for New Regency; Roberts, Karah Preiss and Matt Matruski for Belletrist; and Alexandra Milchan and Martin Salgo for Crescent Line.

Looking Back at the Original Bride Wars

Bride Wars was released in January 2009 and directed by Gary Winick. Though the film received mostly negative reviews from critics, it performed solidly at the box office, earning around $115 million worldwide.

Over time, the movie developed a fan base, especially among rom-com viewers.

Emma Roberts’ Busy Slate

Roberts has stayed busy in recent years. She starred in American Horror Story: Delicate and is set to return for season 13 of American Horror Story.

Her recent film credits include Maybe I Do and the Prime Video comedy Space Cadet, which she also executive produced. Roberts also served as an executive producer on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies.

Peacock has not yet announced a premiere date for the new Bride Wars series.
