Nick Reiner Pleads Not Guilty in Parents’ Murder Case, Denied Bail

Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty Monday to murdering his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in their Los Angeles home late last year.

The 32-year-old appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Feb. 23 wearing a brown jail jumpsuit, with a shaved head and facial hair. Standing beside his public defender, Kimberly Greene, Nick entered not guilty pleas to two counts of first-degree murder. Judge Theresa McGonigle denied him bail.

Prosecutors say they are still waiting for completed autopsy results in the case.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Nick is accused of fatally stabbing both of his parents inside their Brentwood home during the early morning hours of Dec. 14, 2025. Authorities allege he fled the residence after the attack. He was arrested later that night, shortly after officers discovered the couple’s bodies. He has remained in custody without bail since then.

Prosecutors have charged Nick with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, including the alleged use of a knife. If convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

During Monday’s hearing, Nick waived his right to a speedy trial. He is scheduled to return to court on April 29.

Emergency responders were called to the Reiner home around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 14. The Los Angeles Fire Department said paramedics attempted to provide medical aid, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities allege Rob and Michele were killed hours earlier in their bedroom and suffered multiple sharp force injuries.

The couple had been married since 1989. They shared two children, son Jake and daughter Romy. Rob Reiner was previously married to actress and director Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. During that marriage, he adopted her daughter, Tracy.

It was Romy who discovered her father’s body inside the home. She later learned that her mother had also died.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Jake and Romy expressed their grief.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The case remains under investigation as prosecutors continue to review evidence and await final autopsy reports.
