The Oscar-winning actor, who played Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, recently shared that she once kept a lock of Anakin Skywalker’s hair as a souvenir. But there’s a twist — she no longer knows where it is.
Natalie Portman Took Anakin’s Iconic Braid
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Portman admitted she “stole” one of Anakin’s famous braids from the set.
Portman starred alongside Hayden Christensen in:
• Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
• Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
• Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
Christensen’s character, Anakin Skywalker, wore a long braided strand of hair during the prequels — a look that became iconic among fans.
“It’s quite iconic,” Portman said. “The only problem is I lost it. I don’t know where it is now. I stole it and lost it.”
She also revealed that the braid wasn’t real hair. It was actually a clip-on extension used for filming.
Hayden Christensen Also Took Star Wars Props
Portman isn’t the only one who left the set with a souvenir.
Christensen recently revealed at Fan Expo New Orleans that he also kept a few items from the Star Wars films. Like Portman, he took some of Anakin’s hair — specifically from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
“Full disclosure: That’s not my real hair,” he joked during the event.
But that wasn’t all.
Christensen shared that he also took:
• A couple of Padmé’s braids from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
• A few small knick-knacks
• A lightsaber prop
The Lightsaber Smuggling Story
One of the more surprising stories involved a lightsaber.
After filming in Australia, Christensen wanted to bring one of the prop weapons back home to Canada. Because of its size, he had to get creative.
“I was trying to figure out how to get this one lightsaber back,” he said. “So I packaged it up, and I shipped it as a didgeridoo.”
He reportedly told shipping officials he had purchased a didgeridoo and wanted it sent back to Canada.
Unlike Christensen, Portman said she didn’t take any large props — likely avoiding the challenge of transporting a bulky item across the world.
Portman Reflects on Her Iconic Roles
During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Portman also looked back at some of her most famous films, including:
• Garden State
• Closer
• Black Swan
• No Strings Attached
• Jackie
Her role as Padmé Amidala remains one of her most recognized performances, especially among Star Wars fans.
A Star Wars Memory Lost to Time
While many actors keep props as mementos from major films, Portman’s small keepsake has been lost to time.
Still, the story adds a fun behind-the-scenes detail to the Star Wars legacy — proving that even Jedi braids can become treasured (and misplaced) souvenirs.
For fans of the galaxy far, far away, it’s just another reminder of how meaningful the prequel trilogy remains to both its stars and its audience.
