The “Scream” and “In the Heights” star will make her Broadway debut in the hit musical spoof Titanique, stepping into the iconic role of Rose at the historic St. James Theatre in New York City.
The campy, award-winning comedy puts a wild twist on Titanic, the blockbuster directed by James Cameron. Instead of telling the tragic love story straight, “Titanique” reimagines what “really happened” to Jack and Rose — all through the perspective and powerhouse songs of Céline Dion.
Barrera will play Rose DeWitt Bukater, the role famously portrayed on screen by Kate Winslet. In this version, however, the drama is turned all the way up for laughs, blending theatrical absurdity with Dion’s biggest hits. The musical features songs like “My Heart Will Go On,” “Because You Loved Me,” “All by Myself” and “To Love You More,” woven into a high-energy comedic retelling of the doomed voyage.
Marla Mindelle, who co-created the show alongside Tye Blue and Constantine Rousouli, will reprise her role as Céline Dion. Joining the Broadway cast is four-time Emmy winner and Tony Award nominee Jim Parsons, who will play Rose’s mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater — a role originally portrayed in the film by Frances Fisher. Grammy nominee Deborah Cox is set to take on the role of Unsinkable Molly Brown, famously played by Kathy Bates in the movie.
“Titanique” first opened off-Broadway in June 2022 at the Asylum Theatre before transferring to the Daryl Roth Theatre, where it ran for three years and closed in June 2025. During its successful off-Broadway run, the show expanded internationally with productions in Sydney, London, Chicago and Paris.
With Barrera now at the helm as Rose, the Broadway production promises soaring vocals and big comedic energy. The actress, who recently appeared in Peacock’s “The Copenhagen Test” and Netflix’s “Your Monster,” continues to build a diverse career across film, television and now the stage.
The Broadway engagement will be a limited 16-week run. Previews begin March 26, with an official opening night set for April 12. The production is scheduled to close on July 12.
For Barrera, it marks a major career milestone — and for audiences, it’s a chance to see one of Hollywood’s rising stars take on a legendary love story, with a very Dion-inspired twist.
