Laurence Fishburne Joins Star-Studded Cast of New ‘Exorcist’ Movie

Laurence Fishburne is stepping into the world of supernatural horror, joining The Exorcist universe in a brand-new reboot from Universal Pictures.

The Oscar-nominated actor will star alongside Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming film, which is being directed by acclaimed horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan. The ensemble cast also includes Jacobi Jupe, Diane Lane and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Details about Fishburne’s role are being kept secret, adding to the mystery surrounding the project. What is known is that the film will tell an entirely new story set within The Exorcist universe. It will not continue the storyline from 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, instead offering a fresh and terrifying take on the iconic franchise.

Production is expected to take place in New York City, with Universal Pictures planning a wide theatrical release in March 2027.

Fishburne is one of the most respected performers in Hollywood, best known for playing Morpheus in The Matrix franchise. His career spans more than five decades, beginning with his film debut at just 15 years old in Apocalypse Now.

Over the years, Fishburne has earned major awards across film, television and theater. He won a Tony Award for August Wilson’s Two Trains Running, multiple Emmy Awards—including one for #FreeRayshawn—and received an Academy Award nomination for his role in What’s Love Got to Do with It. He is also a seven-time NAACP Image Award winner.

His extensive filmography includes acclaimed titles such as Boyz n the Hood, The Color Purple, Mystic River, Deep Cover and King of New York.
