Hilary Duff Says Sex Gets Better With Age as She Opens Up About New Album

Former teen star Hilary Duff is opening up about growing older, her marriage, and even her sex life — and she’s doing it with honesty and humor.

In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Duff said she feels more confident than ever at 38. While promoting her new album luck...or something, she shared that her relationship with intimacy has changed over the years.

“I finally feel like I know a lot about sex,” Duff said. She explained that in her 20s, intimacy wasn’t always enjoyable because she was still figuring things out. Now, she says, she feels more comfortable and confident. “Maybe that’s a female thing, but I’m not ready to be put out to pasture,” she added, pushing back against the idea that women lose relevance as they age.

The album is Duff’s first in a decade and is deeply personal. She worked closely on it with her husband, Matthew Koma, whom she married in 2019. The songs explore love, growth, sex, and complicated family relationships.

One of the tracks, “Roommates,” raised eyebrows with its bold lyrics about desire and late-night encounters. But Duff says the record is meant to reflect her real life and real experiences.

Family tensions also play a role in the album. Duff confirmed that her song “We Don’t Talk” is about her strained relationship with her older sister, Haylie Duff.

Speaking on CBS Mornings with host Anthony Mason, Duff admitted the track was difficult to include.

“It’s definitely about my sister and just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence,” she said. “It’s not having my sister in my life at the moment.” Duff shared that she struggled with whether to release such a personal song but ultimately felt the album needed to be honest. She said many people experience estrangement in their families, and she wanted the record to reflect real connection — not outside material written by others.

Duff, who is a mother of four, also addressed comments about her appearance. She says people often tell her she has “aged really well,” which she finds amusing.

“I’m only 38! Just because you’ve known me since I was 9…” she said. She joked about when she might qualify for senior discounts, adding that perceptions of age have changed over time.

With luck...or something, Duff is showing fans a more mature and open side of herself. From marriage and motherhood to sisterhood and self-discovery, the album marks a new chapter — one she’s clearly not afraid to share.
