A new special titled “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special” is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 24, marking two decades since Hannah Montana first debuted on Disney Channel in 2006.
The anniversary celebration will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature an exclusive, in-depth interview with Miley Cyrus. The conversation will be hosted by Alex Cooper, who will guide fans through a nostalgic look back at the show that helped shape a generation.
According to Disney, the special promises an intimate and heartfelt conversation about how Hannah Montana was created, how the character changed Miley’s life, and why the series continues to mean so much to fans around the world. Viewers can expect never-before-seen archival footage and recreated versions of the show’s most iconic sets — including the Stewart family living room and Hannah’s legendary closet where Miley transformed into her pop-star alter ego.
There may even be a few familiar musical moments making a return.
Originally premiering in 2006, “Hannah Montana” quickly became a global sensation. The Emmy-nominated series didn’t just dominate kids’ television — it influenced fashion, music and pop culture at large. The franchise went on to release 14 platinum and 18 gold albums worldwide and produced two feature films, including 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie.
Reflecting on the milestone, Cyrus shared her gratitude for the show and its loyal fan base.
“‘Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of who I am,” she said. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said the special is meant to serve as a “love letter” to fans who grew up with the series and continue to celebrate it today.
The special is produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, with Ashley Edens serving as showrunner. Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Cooper and Matt Kaplan are executive producers.
Fans don’t have to wait until March to revisit the magic. The full “Hannah Montana” collection is already streaming on Disney+, and beginning Feb. 19, subscribers can watch a dedicated nonstop stream featuring all four seasons of the series, along with “Hannah Montana: The Movie” and “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert.”
Even after 20 years, the franchise’s popularity remains strong. Disney says the “Hannah Montana” catalog has surpassed half a billion hours streamed globally on Disney+ — proof that the girl with the secret pop-star life still has a devoted audience ready to sing along.
