Britney Spears Sells Music Catalog in Landmark Deal Worth Around $200 Million

Britney Spears has officially sold her ownership stake in her music catalog in what sources are calling a “landmark deal.”

According to newly filed legal documents obtained by TMZ, the Princess of Pop signed over her share of her extensive catalog to music publishing company Primary Wave. While the exact dollar amount was not disclosed in the paperwork, insiders say the agreement is believed to be in the same range as the roughly $200 million deal Justin Bieber made when he sold his catalog.

Spears reportedly signed the deal on December 30. She is currently managed by Cade Hudson. Sources close to the singer say she is happy with the decision and has been celebrating quietly by spending time with her children.

A Catalog Full of Pop Classics

The sale includes some of the biggest hits of Spears’ career, including:

• “…Baby One More Time”

• “Oops!... I Did It Again”

• “Toxic”

• “Gimme More”

• “Circus”

• “Womanizer”

• “Lucky”

• “Stronger”

• “I’m a Slave 4 U”

• “Everytime”

• “Piece of Me”

• “Till The World Ends”

And many more chart-topping tracks that defined late-’90s and 2000s pop music.

Joining a Growing Trend

Spears now joins a growing list of legendary artists who have cashed in on their music catalogs in recent years. Major names who have made similar moves include:

• Bruce Springsteen

• Bob Dylan

• Paul Simon

• Neil Young

• Shakira

• KISS

• Sting

• Phil Collins

• Stevie Nicks

Notably, Stevie Nicks previously sold 80% of her publishing catalog to Primary Wave in 2020. At the time, her music rights were reportedly valued at around $100 million.

Why Artists Are Selling

Music catalog sales have become increasingly popular as artists look to secure large upfront payouts. These deals allow artists to cash in on decades of work while companies like Primary Wave take over managing, licensing, and profiting from the songs for film, television, commercials, and streaming.

For Spears, whose career spans more than two decades and includes some of the most recognizable pop songs of all time, the deal marks another major business move in her post-conservatorship era.

While the full financial details remain private, one thing is clear: Britney Spears’ music legacy remains as powerful — and valuable — as ever.
