Tom Holland Admits He Fell Behind on Water Bills After Moving Back to England

Tom Holland has shared a funny but relatable moment from his early days of living independently in England — he didn’t realise he had to pay for water.

The 28-year-old actor opened up about the experience while speaking on Jay Shetty’s podcast, where he explained how growing up as a successful actor meant he missed out on learning some everyday life basics.

Holland said that because his career took off at a young age, much of his “growing up” happened while travelling for work. When he finally settled down in England, simple responsibilities caught him off guard.

“I’ve done so much of my growing up on the road,” he said. “I needed to do a lot of growing up at home.”

The Spider-Man star revealed that things like paying council tax, managing bins, and even handling utility bills were never explained to him in school — and that led to a costly misunderstanding.

“I didn’t realise you had to pay for your water,” Holland admitted. “I just thought that was a luxury of living in England. The water comes out the sky and then it comes out your tap.”

Because of that assumption, he fell behind on his water bills before eventually realising his mistake. He was quick to reassure listeners that the situation has since been fixed.

“I was so behind on my water bill,” he joked. “I’m up to date now. Don’t worry.”

Despite the mishap, Holland found humor in the contrast between playing a global superhero and struggling with everyday adult tasks like rubbish collection.

Reflecting on the experience, he suggested that schools should do more to prepare young people for real-life responsibilities.

“I think there should be a lesson at school called ‘Life,’” he said. “Things like laundry, basic cooking, paying bills — the stuff you actually need.”

Holland’s candid comments struck a chord with fans, proving that even Hollywood stars can be just as confused by adult life as everyone else.
