Patricia Clarkson Joins Scorsese Film Starring DiCaprio and Lawrence

Patricia Clarkson has joined the cast of What Happens at Night, the new feature film directed by Martin Scorsese. She will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

The film is produced by Apple Studios in partnership with Studiocanal. The story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy town in Europe to adopt a baby. The project is described as dream-like in tone.

Scorsese will direct and produce through Sikelia Productions. The screenplay is written by Patrick Marber, based on the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron.

The film reunites Scorsese and DiCaprio with Apple Original Films after Killers of the Flower Moon, which earned 10 Academy Award nominations. Lawrence has also worked with Apple on Causeway and Bread & Roses, and will next star and produce in the upcoming murder-mystery The Wives.

Clarkson recently starred in the biopic Lilly, playing equal-pay activist Lilly Ledbetter. The film was released in theaters in May 2025 and is now streaming on Netflix. Her recent work also includes Monica and She Said, where she portrayed Pulitzer Prize-winning editor Rebecca Corbett.

Up next, Clarkson will guest star in season two of Netflix’s Ransom Canyon as Claire O’Grady, the mother of Minka Kelly’s character. In 2024, she appeared on stage in London’s West End in Long Day’s Journey Into Night, opposite Brian Cox, earning widespread praise for her performance.
