In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hardin looked back on her long career, which began when she was just 6 years old. Among the many stories she shared was one particularly unsettling moment involving a monkey while filming the early ’90s TV series Equal Justice.
Hardin revealed that during her time on the show, she was bitten by a monkey while acting in a scene alongside Sarah Jessica Parker.
“I had actually done something with Sarah Jessica Parker, where I also had to deal with a monkey, and the monkey bit me on that one,” Hardin said.
Although the bite didn’t draw blood, it did break the skin. Hardin explained that the monkey was the same type used on Friends, where she also worked with the famously unpredictable capuchin known as Marcel.
“It didn’t make me bleed, but it definitely cut my skin,” she said. “Those monkeys are just so high-strung. They’re really anxious animals.”
Despite the scare, Hardin stressed that she still loves animals and has worked with many throughout her career — including a horse on the children’s show Thunder. She noted that while her experience on Friends was stressful, it didn’t result in an injury like the one on Equal Justice.
At the time, Equal Justice starred Parker as a young law school graduate trying to prove herself in a tough district attorney’s office. Hardin appeared in a Season 2 episode as a guest star. Both actresses were at very different stages in their careers then, but each would go on to major success later in the decade.
Looking back now, Hardin can laugh about the incident.
“If today that happened to an actress, I don’t know — would they sue?” she joked. “We put a Band-Aid on it, and then we did it again.”
For Hardin, it’s just another unforgettable story from a lifetime spent in front of the camera.
