Linkin Park Reportedly Moves to Remove White House Video Using Their Song

A short video shared by the official White House social media accounts on New Year’s Eve has reportedly been taken down after action from Linkin Park.

The video promoted accomplishments of U.S. President Donald Trump and used Linkin Park’s 2003 song Somewhere I Belong as background music. According to reports, the band did not authorize the use of the song and asked for the clip to be removed.

This is not the first time Linkin Park has objected to the use of their music in Trump-related content. In 2020, the band issued a cease-and-desist order after their 2000 hit In the End was used in a Trump presidential campaign video without permission. At the time, the band said clearly that they did not support Trump and had not allowed their music to be used.

Before his death in 2017, former Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington was outspoken about his opposition to Trump. In a social media post, Bennington criticized the president and urged people to speak up for what they believe in.

Linkin Park have not publicly commented on the most recent takedown. However, music outlet Rock Feed reported that someone connected to the band confirmed they were “taking action” over the video before it was removed.

As of now, the White House video is no longer available across the platforms where it was originally shared.
