Kristen Stewart Says She’d Direct a Twilight Remake: “I’m Committed!”

“Hold on tight, spider monkey” might be getting a whole new meaning.

Kristen Stewart is once again stepping into the Twilight conversation — this time not as Bella Swan, but as a director ready to reimagine the film that launched a global phenomenon.

While walking the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Creative Impact Awards, Stewart revealed that if she could remake any project from her past, it would be the very first Twilight.

“I would love — look. I love what Catherine did, I love what Chris did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” Stewart told Entertainment Tonight, referring to the filmmakers behind the franchise. “They were so themselves and weird and kind of squirrelly, and just so present in that time before it blew up.”

Despite her admiration for the original films, Stewart couldn’t hide her curiosity about what a modern, filmmaker-driven Twilight might look like.

“Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support,” she said. “I would love to readapt.”

Then, with a grin and a glance straight into the camera, Stewart doubled down: “Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

Each Twilight installment had a different director behind the lens. Catherine Hardwicke directed the original film, followed by Chris Weitz (New Moon), David Slade (Eclipse), and Bill Condon, who helmed both parts of Breaking Dawn.

In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month, Stewart offered especially high praise for Hardwicke, calling the first Twilight film unmistakably hers.

“That movie is Catherine’s and reflects her,” Stewart said. “Being able to withstand that many opinions and still make something personal is near impossible.”

She also admitted she felt sympathy for the directors who followed, suggesting the massive expectations surrounding the sequels created a more restrictive creative environment. Still, Stewart acknowledged that each film managed to retain its own personality despite the pressure.

“They feel almost overtly, bizarrely, spastically themselves,” she explained, adding that the intense drive behind the franchise is something that still inspires her as an artist.

And Stewart isn’t the only one ready to return to Forks. In 2023, Entertainment Weekly reported that Lionsgate was developing a television adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling vampire novels. Meyer is reportedly involved, though details about the series remain under wraps.

Whether it’s a reboot, a TV reimagining, or just wishful thinking for now, one thing is clear: Twilight still has a powerful hold — and Kristen Stewart is more than ready to sink her teeth back in. 🧛‍♀️✨
