Los Angeles police officers responded to a report of an assault around 12:15 a.m. near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, according to Officer Kevin Terzes. Investigators allege that Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats.
Police said the victim did not suffer injuries that required medical treatment at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
Sutherland, 59, was booked into jail shortly after 4 a.m. on an unspecified felony charge, according to Los Angeles County jail records. Bail was set at $50,000, and he was released about seven hours later after posting bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.
Sutherland rose to fame in the 1980s with roles that cast him as a heartthrob and occasional bad boy before finding major television success in the 2000s starring on the hit series 24. He is the son of the late actor Donald Sutherland.
No further details about the alleged incident have been released.
