During a live performance in Las Vegas on Saturday night, the superstar paused to reflect on love, heartbreak, and self-worth after performing her 1999 breakout hit If You Had My Love.
Addressing the crowd, Lopez explained how her relationship with the song has changed over the past 25 years. She said she first sang it with hope, later with sadness, and now, she sings it from a place of strength and power.
“The truth is, if you wanted to have my love, you would have to earn it,” Lopez told the audience. “You would have to treat me right. You would have to respect me. You’d have to accept me for all that I am. You’d have to love me if you wanted my love.”
While the message was empowering, Lopez didn’t shy away from honesty. She acknowledged that love is never simple and often comes with pain.
“You can’t have love without heartbreak,” she said.
The moment struck a chord with fans, especially given the song’s own emotional history. Years after its release, Drake sampled the track in his song Teenage Fever, fueling long-standing rumors of a brief romantic connection between the two artists.
Lopez’s personal life has long played out in the public eye. Her high-profile relationships have included marriages to Marc Anthony and Ben Affleck, as well as engagements to Alex Rodriguez. She also previously dated Diddy early in her career.
Lopez finalized her divorce from Affleck last year, closing the chapter on one of Hollywood’s most talked-about romances.
Now, if her words on stage are any indication, the global icon isn’t searching for love — she’s standing firmly in her power and letting love rise to meet her.
