Jennifer Lawrence Playfully Trolls Emma Stone Over SAG Snub: “It’s an Honor to Be Beaten”

Jennifer Lawrence has no problem poking fun at her close friend Emma Stone — especially when awards season gives her the perfect opening.

Speaking on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at New York’s 92NY Kaufmann Concert Hall, the 35-year-old actress told interviewer Josh Horowitz that she jokingly “trolled” Stone in their group chat after missing out on a SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards nomination.

“She got nominated for SAG today and I did not,” Lawrence said with a laugh while promoting her new film Die My Love. As messages poured into their group chat congratulating Stone, Lawrence admitted she responded by sending a sad-face emoji.

Stone, 37, earned an Actor Awards nomination for her lead role in Bugonia. Lawrence, meanwhile, was recognized for Die My Love at other major ceremonies, including the Golden Globes and Gotham Awards, but didn’t land a SAG nomination.

Lawrence leaned into the joke even more when Stone tried to change the subject. “Every time she’s tried to talk today, I’ve just been like, ‘If you can talk, why are you not so sorry?’” she joked onstage. She quickly added that the friendly rivalry has a long history. “She’s been beating me for decades, and it’s an honor.”

The two actresses have been close friends for years, frequently crossing paths at industry events and competing for similar roles. Lawrence even presented an award when Stone won her second Oscar in 2024 for Poor Things.

During the conversation, Lawrence revealed one role she still thinks about losing to Stone: Easy A. “I was nuts for Easy A — and really should have gotten it, right?” she said, laughing. “It would have been great.”

Despite the playful competition, the friendship is clearly solid. Lawrence and Stone are reportedly teaming up with Cole Escola on a new Miss Piggy movie featuring the iconic Muppet. Lawrence jokingly claimed the film had high-profile directors attached and would be R-rated, before clarifying with a grin, “No, it’s a family movie — for gays and women.”

Looking ahead, Lawrence has several projects in the works. Among them is The Wives, a murder mystery inspired by the Real Housewives reality franchise, which she’s developing as both star and producer.

Awards or not, Lawrence made it clear she’s enjoying the ride — especially when it includes laughing at herself and celebrating her best friend’s success.
