In a recent interview with ELLE UK, the British singer-songwriter reflected on the making of the record, which she has previously described as a “transcendent artistic experience.” While deeply personal and creatively fulfilling, Twigs said the album arrived at a difficult moment, both for her and for the wider world.
She explained that modern life often leaves little room for openness. With constant pressure from work, money worries, social media, travel, and endless noise, she believes people are rarely in a place to fully receive something unfamiliar or emotionally demanding.
“When a new idea appears, or an experience is put upon us, we’re not always ready to embrace that thing with open arms,” she said.
According to Twigs, trying to communicate the spirit of Eusexua during a period marked by widespread pain and exhaustion felt especially hard. She noted that in such a cynical atmosphere, some listeners seemed to take the album’s themes almost as a personal challenge rather than an invitation.
She also addressed the reaction to her absence from the public eye after undergoing laparoscopic surgery to remove six large fibroid tumours. Twigs recalled seeing confusion and speculation online, with people asking where she had gone, while she was privately dealing with a serious health issue.
“I went through this crazy thing that, it turns out, so many women go through,” she said, pointing to how common yet under-discussed the experience is.
Despite the challenges, Twigs is now preparing to return to the stage. Later this year, she will tour Europe, with arena shows planned in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, and Berlin in June. These dates follow a North American leg in the spring. UK fans will have a single chance to see her live when she performs at London’s The O2 on June 10 as part of her ‘Body High’ tour.
For Twigs, the road ahead represents not just a return to performance, but a continuation of sharing work that asks listeners to slow down, feel, and remain open — even when the world makes that difficult.
