In a recent interview with W Magazine, the 37-year-old Oscar winner laughed off speculation that she might portray the legendary Muppet in an upcoming Miss Piggy film she is producing with Jennifer Lawrence.
“First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy that I’ve ever heard,” Stone said bluntly. “Why would I play a literal star?”
Clearly amused and slightly baffled by the suggestion, Stone doubled down, praising the larger-than-life character. “She’s the greatest… what do you mean?” she said. “No, of course I'm not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jennifer Lawrence. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind?”
Stone added that the idea alone would likely send Miss Piggy into a dramatic exit. “Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy,” she joked. “She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.”
The project was first revealed by Jennifer Lawrence during a November appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. Lawrence confirmed that she and Emma Stone are producing a Miss Piggy movie, with the script being written by Tony Award–winning playwright Cole Escola.
“I don’t know if I can announce this,” Lawrence said at the time, before announcing it anyway. “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie, and Cole is writing it.”
Later that month, Lawrence shared more details while appearing on The Tonight Show. She explained that the idea was sparked during the COVID-19 lockdown, after a conversation with a friend about cancel culture and feminism.
“My friend said, ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon,’” Lawrence recalled. “‘It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled.’”
Lawrence quickly clarified that this is not the plot of the film, but said the comment helped set the creative wheels in motion. She noted that Stone played a major role in shaping the project, calling her “the Muppet head” and crediting her with guiding the film’s direction.
With Cole Escola now writing the script, Lawrence said the team feels right. She also confirmed that both she and Stone are expected to appear in the movie — though definitely not as Miss Piggy herself.
For now, one thing is settled: Miss Piggy remains untouchable, unforgettable, and entirely her own diva.
