The incident happened when the 400-pound rubber boulder, designed to roll safely along a fixed path, became dislodged during the show. In a video shared on social media, the boulder can be seen bouncing off its intended route and rolling toward the stage area.
A cast member quickly ran in to stop the boulder before it could reach the audience. Despite his effort, the heavy prop knocked him to the ground. Another cast member rushed in to help moments later, and the video ended shortly after.
Disney confirmed that the injured employee received immediate medical care and is now recovering.
“We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering,” a Disney spokesperson told Variety. “Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.”
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! is a long-running attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and is also featured during Disney’s Discovery Disney event series, which offers educational experiences and behind-the-scenes looks at how the parks operate.
The show is inspired by scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Along with the famous boulder moment, the show includes bullwhip demonstrations, high falls, and action scenes with elaborate props.
According to Disney, the stunt show is built with multiple safety backups. Each major scene has several contingency plans in place in case something goes wrong. Disney says it is now reviewing the incident and will adjust the show as needed before resuming that part of the performance.
No audience members were injured during the incident.
