Power Rangers Series for Disney+ Gains Momentum as Casting Buzz Heats Up

While Percy Jackson and the Olympians continues to dominate Disney+ viewership, the creative team behind the hit series is already moving full speed ahead on its next major project: a brand-new Power Rangers series for the streamer.

Casting conversations are well underway, with several notable names being discussed — and some talent already testing for roles. Here’s a breakdown of who’s in the mix and what’s happening behind the scenes.

One of the strongest contenders is Peyton Elizabeth Lee. Lee has an established relationship with Disney Branded Television, having starred in Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., Secret Society of Second Born Royals, and the Disney+ original film Prom Pact. Sources say her name is at the very top of the list for one of the Ranger leads, and unless a last-minute scheduling conflict arises, she is expected to be part of the core cast.

Another name being mentioned is Mason Thames, who had a standout year in 2025 thanks to How to Train Your Dragon and The Black Phone 2. While there is no confirmation that Thames has officially tested for the series, Disney is reportedly eager to work with him again. With Power Rangers expected to begin filming in April and How to Train Your Dragon 2 set to wrap production beforehand, the timing could work in his favor.

Perhaps the most eye-catching name being floated is Priyanka Chopra. According to a source connected to the franchise, the studio has the actress on its wishlist to play iconic villain Rita Repulsa. While this information has not been independently confirmed, Chopra has proven she can handle a villainous role, most notably in Baywatch. Her strong global profile — and her marriage to a Jonas Brother — certainly doesn’t hurt her chances with Disney.

In addition to these high-profile names, several young actors are also being considered or have reportedly tested for roles. These include Shaun Dixon, Paris Bravo, Judd Goodstein, Momona Tamada, Christian Alexander Cruz, and Kira McLean. Together, the group suggests Disney is aiming for a fresh, youthful ensemble while still mixing in recognizable talent.

The series will be written, produced, and showrun by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the same creative duo responsible for the success of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Their involvement signals that Disney is taking a character-driven, story-focused approach to reinventing the long-running franchise.

With casting talks intensifying and production on the horizon, Disney+’s Power Rangers reboot is shaping up to be one of the streamer’s most closely watched upcoming projects. Fans should expect more concrete announcements as filming draws closer.
