David Harbour Steps Away From Tony Gilroy’s ‘Behemoth!’ for Searchlight Pictures

David Harbour has exited Tony Gilroy’s upcoming drama Behemoth!, a spokesperson for Searchlight Pictures confirmed.

The Stranger Things star had been set to appear opposite Pedro Pascal, Eva Victor, and Olivia Wilde in the film from writer-director Tony Gilroy. However, the studio says Harbour has since “stepped back” from the project.

The confirmation follows media reports suggesting that the demanding promotional schedule for Stranger Things Season 5—whose final installment debuted on New Year’s Eve—played a role in Harbour’s decision. According to those reports, the actor opted to prioritize rest and his mental health.

Harbour has already been recast in Behemoth!, though Searchlight did not share details about who will replace him.

His casting in the film was announced just three months ago, with few specifics revealed at the time. An official logline described the story as following “a musician from a family of musicians who returns to Los Angeles.”

In recent months, Harbour has also faced public scrutiny. In October, his estranged wife, British singer Lily Allen, released her album West End Girl, which appeared to reference the breakdown of their marriage. Then in November, reports surfaced that Harbour’s Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown had filed harassment and bullying claims against him ahead of filming the show’s fifth season.

Harbour has not directly addressed those claims, though he and Brown later appeared together on the Stranger Things 5 red carpet in Los Angeles.

Despite stepping away from Behemoth!, Harbour remains busy. According to IMDb, he has several projects in development, including Avengers: Doomsday and Violent Night 2.
