Dave Matthews Blasts Trump, ICE After Minneapolis Shooting of Renee Nicole Good

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Matthews sharply criticized President Donald Trump and his administration after Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis woman, was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent earlier this week.

In a video message posted on social media on his birthday, Matthews said he was upset and angry about the federal government’s actions. He questioned why taxpayer dollars are used for ICE enforcement and military operations abroad instead of helping people at home, such as housing the homeless or supporting community services.

Matthews called the Trump administration officials “dishonest” and “shameful.” He specifically named Trump and several of his top advisers, saying, “Fuck them… They are revolting.” He also ended his message with a blunt statement: “Fuck ICE.”

What Happened to Renee Good?

Good, a mother of three, poet, and writer, was killed on January 7 during a large federal immigration enforcement operation in south Minneapolis. Multiple videos of the incident show her in her SUV when an ICE agent fired shots, killing her.

Federal officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, have defended the agent’s actions, claiming Good would have used her vehicle as a weapon and labeling her actions as “domestic terrorism.” Vice President JD Vance also suggested Good was part of a left-wing effort to interfere with law enforcement.

But local leaders and community members dispute this account, saying video evidence contradicts the administration’s version of events. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has pushed for greater involvement in the investigation and criticized how federal authorities have handled the case.

Public Reaction and Protests

The shooting has led to protests and public outcry in Minneapolis and beyond. Thousands marched in the city, and many demand ICE leave the area. Some supporters held vigils and shared memories of Good, remembering her as a kind, creative person.

The case has reignited debates about federal immigration enforcement, use of force by law enforcement, and how government officials talk about and treat citizens and residents during such operations.
