Billie Eilish Amplifies Calls to Abolish ICE After Minnesota Shooting

Billie Eilish is using her platform to amplify protests against United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the fatal shooting of a Minnesota woman during an immigration enforcement operation.

On Friday, Jan. 9, two days after 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, Eilish shared several posts on her Instagram Story condemning the agency. One graphic she reposted labeled ICE a “federally funded and supported terrorist group,” accusing it of tearing apart families, terrorizing communities, and killing innocent people.

Another post called for the country to “abolish ICE,” citing a list of 32 people who reportedly died while in ICE custody last year. A third urged U.S. citizens to contact members of Congress to demand the agency be defunded and for the officer involved in the Minneapolis shooting to be arrested and charged.

ICE has faced sharp criticism for years, particularly during the administration of Donald Trump, but backlash intensified this week after the Minneapolis incident. Officials from Department of Homeland Security, along with Trump and JD Vance, said Good attempted to run over agents with her car and that the officer acted in self-defense. However, video footage circulating widely online appears to show Good driving away from the agents at the time of the shooting.

According to a report by The New York Times, Trump viewed the footage in the Oval Office and struggled to explain what happened. “It’s a terrible scene,” he reportedly said. “I think it’s horrible to watch.”

Eilish has been outspoken in her opposition to Trump’s policies for years. She endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and has previously shared posts criticizing ICE raids in her hometown of Los Angeles.

Her latest statements add to a growing chorus of public figures calling for accountability and sweeping changes to U.S. immigration enforcement in the wake of the Minneapolis shooting.
