Amy Poehler Makes Golden Globes History With First-Ever Podcast Win

Amy Poehler added a new milestone to her career Sunday night, taking home the first-ever Golden Globe Award for podcasting for her talk show Good Hang With Amy Poehler.

Accepting the inaugural honor at the Golden Globes, Poehler mixed sincerity with her trademark wit.

“I know that I am new to this game. I have great respect for this form,” she said, before poking fun at fellow nominees. “I am big fans of all of you — except for NPR: just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. Try harder,” she joked, drawing laughter from the room.

Behind the punchlines, Poehler shared the heart of the project, explaining that Good Hang is her way of pushing back against a harsh world. The goal, she said, is to add “a little bit more love and laughter” — and to laugh with people, not at them.

A Competitive New Category

At the 2026 ceremony, Good Hang With Amy Poehler topped a crowded and high-profile field. The nominees included Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, SmartLess, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and NPR’s Up First.

The Globes introduced the podcast award this year to recognize what organizers called the “extraordinary and diverse talents in podcasting.” Nominees were selected from the 25 most popular eligible shows, using Luminate listener metrics, and included both audio-only and video podcasts.

What Makes “Good Hang” Click

Launched in March 2025, Good Hang is intentionally low-pressure. Poehler invites what she calls “celebrities and fun people” to talk about work, friendships, passions — and, most importantly, what’s been making them laugh lately.

As the show’s description puts it, the podcast isn’t about self-improvement or advice. “Amy just wants to have a good time.”

Listeners seem to agree. Popular episodes have featured fellow Saturday Night Live alumni such as Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Seth Meyers, and Andy Samberg. Other guests have ranged from Aubrey Plaza and Ariana Grande to Michelle Obama.

The podcast is produced by Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions alongside The Ringer, led by Bill Simmons, and distributed through Spotify.

A Familiar Stage for Poehler

The Golden Globes are hardly new territory for Poehler. She famously co-hosted the ceremony with Tina Fey from 2013 to 2015 and again in 2021, earning praise for their sharp, fearless humor. She also won a Globe in 2013 for best actress in a TV comedy for her role on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

This latest win, however, marks something different — a recognition of how far podcasting has come, and how major awards bodies are beginning to take the medium seriously.

Notable Snubs Spark Debate

The new category also stirred controversy. Several hugely popular shows failed to make the nominee list, including The Joe Rogan Experience, which frequently tops podcast rankings. A number of right-leaning podcasts hosted by figures such as Candace Owens, Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Tucker Carlson were also shut out.

Even so, the message from the Globes was clear: podcasting now has a permanent seat at the awards table — and Amy Poehler was the perfect choice to open the category, with humor, warmth, and a reminder that sometimes, having a good hang is more than enough.
