Fatherhood Has Softened A$AP Rocky: Rapper Says Becoming a Dad Made Him More Loving

Becoming a parent has changed A$AP Rocky in ways he never expected.

In a new interview with W Magazine, published Tuesday, Jan. 6, the rapper and actor opened up about how fatherhood has transformed his emotional outlook on life. Rocky, 37, shares three children with longtime partner Rihanna — sons RZA, 3½, and Riot Rose, 2, along with their youngest, daughter Rocki Irish, who is nearly four months old.

Speaking for W’s “Best Performances” Issue, Rocky admitted that becoming a dad has made him far more emotional than he used to be.

“I am way more emotional,” he said. “Before the kids, I was probably cold-hearted. But now I’m a loving kind of fella.”

That love, he explained, extends beyond his own family. “I’ve got a lot of love to give to the world,” the rapper added.

A Protective Girl Dad

Rocky also joked about his future as a protective father when asked what might happen when someone eventually tries to date his daughter.

“I’m going to pray for them,” he said with a laugh.

The artist — who appeared in two films this awards season, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and Highest 2 Lowest — has been increasingly candid about family life in recent months, often sharing glimpses of how his children are growing and bonding.

Life With Three Kids

At the 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards in December, Rocky spoke about the dynamic between his sons, admitting he was pleasantly surprised by how well they get along.

“I’m surprised that the older two are getting along as much as they are,” he said at the event. “Usually being that close in age, they’d fight a lot, but we’re a happy family.”

Rihanna, who attended the ceremony with him, also shared her own update on their family of five.

“The babies are amazing,” she said. “They’re all getting bigger, and I cannot take it. Their faces are changing. Their necks are getting longer. I love it.”

Adjusting to a New Baby Sister

At the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards in November, Rocky revealed that while his sons adore their baby sister, a little sibling jealousy has started to show.

“They might get a little jealous from time to time,” he said, calling Rocki his “baby twin.” Still, he emphasized that the household is filled with affection.

“It’s a lot of love to go around,” Rocky said. “It’s going to probably take some getting used to. Shout out to my boys and my baby girl. Daddy love y’all.”

For Rocky, fatherhood hasn’t just added new roles to his life — it’s reshaped who he is, turning a once self-described “cold-hearted” artist into a proud, openly affectionate dad.
