During Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce shared that he bought Swift a bread slicer, calling it “one of her favorites.” The 36-year-old NFL star explained his reasoning simply: Swift has been baking so much sourdough that it just made sense.
“She’s been throwing together so much f–king sourdough,” Kelce joked on the show, which he co-hosts with his brother, former NFL center Jason Kelce. He added with a laugh, “I’ve got the best gut health there is. I love you, Tay.”
Jason immediately approved of the gift, pointing out that slicing homemade bread can be a real challenge. “One of the unfortunate things with making fresh bread is trying to cut that s–t,” he said. “It’s hard.”
Jason’s wife, Kylie Kelce, joked that the hardest part of baking bread is the responsibility to eat it all. Jason quickly disagreed, saying that part was “the easiest.”
Swift’s love for bread is no secret. While promoting her Life of a Showgirl album in October, she openly admitted her obsession during an interview on BBC Radio 1. “It’s a danger,” she said. “Because I cannot stop talking about bread when I start. And it has nothing to do with music.”
She went even deeper when she appeared on New Heights the month before, describing sourdough baking as a full-blown lifestyle. “The sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way,” Swift told listeners. “I’m really talking about bread 60 percent of the time now.”
The Grammy winner said she’s constantly baking, texting friends for feedback, and tweaking recipes. She even reads sourdough blogs and was thrilled to discover a massive online bread-baking community. “There’s a whole community of us and I didn’t know it,” she said. “This is an underworld.”
Jason playfully suggested she make an orange marmalade-flavored loaf as a nod to Paddington Bear. And according to Kylie, Swift’s baking skills are no joke. She confirmed in November that her future sister-in-law’s bread is “banging.”
Fans have also caught glimpses of Swift’s favorite flavors through social media posts from friends. Current hits reportedly include blueberry lemon and cinnamon swirl.
For Kelce, the bread slicer may not be flashy, but it clearly hit the mark — proving that sometimes the best celebrity gifts are the most practical (and delicious).
