The 64-year-old actor has shared a fun update on the long-awaited sequel Ocean’s 14, the fourth movie in the popular franchise. The film will reunite Clooney with longtime co-stars Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and others.
Speaking to Variety, Clooney joked that the movie will fully acknowledge how much time has passed since the first Ocean’s Eleven hit theaters back in 2001.
“There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do,” Clooney said. “But we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something.”
According to Clooney, that idea is at the heart of the new film. The characters may not move as fast as they once did, but they’ve gained experience — and that might be their biggest advantage.
The sequel brings back director Steven Soderbergh, with Clooney once again playing master thief Danny Ocean. Pitt returns as his cool-headed partner Rusty, Damon as pickpocket Linus, and Cheadle as explosives expert Basher. Julia Roberts is also back as Danny’s love interest, Tess.
Andy Garcia will reprise his role as casino owner Terry Benedict, though Clooney teased that it’s still unclear whether Benedict will be an ally or an enemy this time around.
“They’ve lost a step,” Clooney said of the crew. “And they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”
Rather than relying on nostalgia alone, Clooney said he was inspired by Going in Style, a film about older criminals pulling off one last job. That influence means audiences can expect a story focused on wit and strategy, not just slick action.
The production team is currently scouting locations, and filming is expected to begin in October 2026.
The Ocean’s franchise includes Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, and Ocean’s Thirteen, all inspired by a 1960s film starring members of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack. A spinoff, Ocean’s 8, later introduced an all-female crew led by Sandra Bullock.
Beyond Ocean’s 14, a prequel film is also in development. It will focus on Danny Ocean’s parents, with Margot Robbie set to star as his mother. Bradley Cooper is reportedly in talks to join the project.
For fans, the message is clear: the Ocean’s crew may be older, but they’re far from finished.
