On Saturday, Dec. 27, the 33-year-old actress shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, saying she will “never stop missing” Fisher. Billie wrote about how her mom continues to live on through the joy she experiences with her children.
Billie described a quiet early morning moment with her 3-year-old daughter, Jackson, that led her to think about the deep bond between her kids and her father, Bryan Lourd.
“They are like two old souls that have known each other forever,” she wrote of Jackson and Bryan. “Watching my dad with my kids is one of the greatest joys I’ve ever known.”
That joy, Billie explained, is inseparable from her mother.
“This joy wouldn’t be possible without my mom. This joy only exists because she existed,” she wrote. “Even though she is not physically part of this joy, she is part of the reason for it. Even though she is not alive she lives on through this joy.”
Billie added that grief changes shape over time. “Today, right now in this moment, that shape is this joy I get to experience watching my kids with my dad,” she said, ending the post with a simple message: “Thank you momby. I will never stop missing you.”
The tribute included a 25-year-old photo of Fisher and Bryan with a young Billie, alongside a recent Christmas picture of Bryan hugging Billie’s children — Jackson and her 5-year-old son, Kingston.
Carrie Fisher, best known for playing Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, died on Dec. 27, 2016, after suffering cardiac arrest during a flight from London to Los Angeles. She was 60 years old. At the time, Bryan Lourd said in a statement that she was “loved by the world” and would be “missed profoundly.”
The loss was followed closely by another tragedy. Fisher’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, died just one day later on Dec. 28, 2016, at age 84.
Over the years, Billie has spoken openly about losing both her mother and grandmother. In May 2023, when Fisher was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Billie unveiled the plaque alongside Fisher’s longtime Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill.
For the ceremony, Billie wore a dress featuring an image of her mom as Princess Leia and sprinkled glitter on the star, saying her mother “left a mark of her sparkle on everyone she met.”
“My mom isn’t just Princess Leia,” Billie said during her speech. “She is Carrie Fisher.”
Billie has continued to honor her mother on birthdays as well. In October 2024, on what would have been Fisher’s 68th birthday, she admitted that some years grief feels warm, other years angry or numb — but that day, she simply wanted her mom.
“60 is too damn young to die,” she wrote.
On Fisher’s 69th birthday, Billie shared another emotional tribute, noting how hard it is that her mother never got to meet her grandchildren.
“She was a brilliant magical human,” Billie wrote, “and I want them to know that.”
Nearly a decade later, Billie Lourd’s message remains clear: Carrie Fisher may be gone, but her presence, love, and legacy are still deeply woven into her family’s everyday joy.
