The actor owned a £48 million penthouse in the exclusive neighborhood, but sources say he decided to move out after a violent robbery took place nearby. Last week, a gang of attackers on motorbikes raided a Rolex store close to Cruise’s apartment building. The thieves used machetes and hammers to break into the shop and escaped with around 20 luxury watches in broad daylight.
The raid lasted just three minutes before the attackers fled the scene on their bikes. According to reports, the incident highlighted what Cruise felt was a growing lack of security in the area.
A source told the Daily Mail that the actor believes Knightsbridge has “declined” in recent years. “The aggressive attack on the store below cemented the lack of security surrounding the multi-million-pound flats where Cruise lives,” the source said.
Cruise, 63, was known to enjoy early morning runs in Hyde Park, which is located directly across the road from his former home. He also enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and frequently used a helicopter from Battersea to travel into the countryside.
Staff were reportedly seen removing boxes of Cruise’s belongings shortly after his decision to leave. Sources said the move happened quickly and surprised building staff.
Knightsbridge and nearby Belgravia have faced ongoing problems with moped gangs targeting tourists and wealthy residents. According to London Metropolitan Police data, 295 crimes were recorded in the area in November 2025, with many occurring near Harrods.
The area has also seen more serious violence. Last year, 24-year-old Blue Stevens was stabbed to death near a luxury hotel in Knightsbridge. His killer has not been caught. His mother has publicly criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan, accusing him of downplaying violent crime in the city.
Cruise reportedly loved living in the UK, where London served as both his professional base and personal retreat. Sources say England had become far more than just a filming location for the actor.
