In a recent video, Mairi Cooley — who posts under the handle @mairicool — said she debated for years whether to share her family’s story publicly. Now, she says, she feels she has nothing to lose.
“My dad gave his heart and soul to Beyoncé’s career,” Mairi said in the video. “They cut him loose and fired him after 20-something years of service.”
A Career That Spanned Decades
According to Mairi, her father, Terry Cooley, worked as a stage and production manager for the global superstar for over 20 years. His tenure reportedly began during the days of Destiny's Child, the girl group that launched Beyoncé’s career before she became a solo powerhouse.
Beyoncé — born Beyoncé Giselle Knowles — went on to become one of the best-selling artists of all time, with hit albums including Dangerously in Love and Lemonade. Her performances are widely known for their precision, demanding choreography and intense rehearsal schedules. Former dancers have previously described her work environment as disciplined and highly structured.
Mairi claims her father worked grueling hours on tour, sometimes up to 22 hours a day.
Health Crisis and Job Loss
In her video, Mairi said her father collapsed and later required surgery. After that, she claims, he was told he could no longer keep up with the demands of the job.
“They decided that he couldn’t keep up,” she said.
According to Mairi, her father did not receive severance pay or additional support after being let go. She also alleged that during the pandemic — when tours were halted — his pay became inconsistent, eventually forcing the family to sell their home.
“Where we’re at now is my dad is suffering financially and he’s suffering emotionally,” she said.
Social Media Reacts
The video quickly drew strong reactions online. Many viewers expressed sympathy and encouraged Terry to tell his story publicly.
“Tell him to write a book called Behind the Stage or something like that,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “Beyoncé is a business. They should have retirement packages for employees like him.”
However, not everyone agreed that the singer herself should be held personally responsible. Some commenters argued that touring and entertainment jobs often operate differently from traditional corporate roles.
“You walk away with what you earn,” one user wrote. “That’s the risk you take when you work outside of the traditional business structure.”
No Official Response
As of now, Beyoncé has not publicly responded to the allegations made in the TikTok video.
The singer most recently completed her Cowboy Carter tour, which ran from April to July last year. Future tour dates have not yet been announced.
Mairi, meanwhile, is asking viewers to tag the superstar online and encourage her to “make things right” and “maybe apologize” for what she describes as disregarding her father’s decades of dedication.
The claims remain unverified, and no official statement has been released by Beyoncé or her team.
