NFL Commissioner Says Bad Bunny Will ‘Unite People’ at Super Bowl Halftime Show

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is standing firmly behind Bad Bunny as the upcoming Super Bowl halftime performer, praising the global superstar’s talent and message amid ongoing political backlash.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Monday, Goodell said Bad Bunny earned the role not only because of his popularity, but because of how he understands the power of the Super Bowl stage.

“Bad Bunny is one of the great artists in the world,” Goodell said. “That was demonstrated last night. He understands this platform is about bringing people together through creativity and talent, and he’ll use this moment in a powerful way.”

Goodell’s comments came one day after Bad Bunny delivered a widely praised appearance at the Grammy Awards, where he won Best Música Urbana Album for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. During his acceptance speech, the singer used the moment to speak out in support of immigrants and criticize the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out,” Bad Bunny told the audience. “We are humans. We are Americans. The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

Since being announced as the 2026 Super Bowl halftime performer, Bad Bunny — a vocal advocate for immigrants’ rights — has faced criticism from conservative figures who oppose his political views.

The controversy intensified last fall when Kristi Noem said on a podcast that federal agents would be “all over” the Super Bowl to “enforce the law.” Her comments sparked concern among fans and immigrant communities.

When asked whether ICE would be present at the game, Goodell said the National Football League is working with federal, state, and local authorities, as it does every year, but avoided directly addressing ICE’s role.

Despite the debate, Goodell made clear the league is confident in its halftime choice.

“I think he’ll have a great performance,” Goodell said.

The Super Bowl halftime show remains one of the most watched live performances in the world, and Bad Bunny’s appearance is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about in recent history.
