“Gucci: Game Over,” an upcoming six-episode Sky series, has locked in its main cast and is being positioned as Italy’s answer to Ridley Scott’s 2021 film House of Gucci. Unlike the Hollywood movie, the new series leans heavily on Italian talent, both in front of and behind the camera.
Miriam Leone (The Lions of Sicily) will star as Patrizia Reggiani, the former socialite who was convicted of arranging the 1995 murder of her ex-husband, fashion executive Maurizio Gucci. The role was famously played by Lady Gaga in House of Gucci. Francesco Scianna (Mary Magdalen) will portray Maurizio, while Matilda Lutz (Final Cut) takes on the role of Allegra Gucci, the couple’s daughter.
The series is based on Allegra Gucci’s memoir, written as a series of letters to her murdered father. The book explores long-kept family secrets, her parents’ volatile relationship before and after their divorce, and the devastating events that led to Maurizio Gucci’s death.
On March 27, 1995, Maurizio Gucci — the head of the Gucci fashion house and grandson of founder Guccio Gucci — was shot dead outside his Milan office. Reggiani was later convicted of organizing the killing and sentenced in 1998.
“Gucci: Game Over” will be directed by Gabriele Muccino, best known internationally for The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith, along with numerous acclaimed Italian films and TV series. Production is set to begin this spring. The show is co-produced by Sky Studios and Italian powerhouse Lucky Red, and is designed for an international audience.
Sky Studios Italy executive vice president Nils Hartmann has repeatedly described the project as Italy’s response to House of Gucci. The Hollywood film sparked backlash in Italy, particularly for casting no Italian actors in its lead roles and for its portrayal of the country and the family.
The series will unfold across multiple timelines, charting the rise and collapse of the Gucci dynasty as internal feuds and power struggles tore the family apart. The story will be told through the perspectives of both Patrizia Reggiani and Allegra Gucci, aiming to piece together the truth behind one of Italy’s most infamous family tragedies.
According to Sky Italia, the show seeks to uncover the identity and legacy of Allegra’s family, portraying the Gucci saga as a timeless drama of ambition, betrayal, and self-destruction at the heart of a legendary Italian empire.
