The decision comes after millions of documents related to the late Jeffrey Epstein were made public. Among them were old message exchanges between Casey Wasserman, the founder and chairman of Wasserman, and Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a prison sentence for her role in Epstein’s crimes.
Wasserman has not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing. However, the messages — sent in 2003 while he was married — have drawn strong criticism online and within the entertainment industry due to their inappropriate tone.
Beyond running one of Hollywood’s most powerful talent agencies, Casey Wasserman also leads the organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Following the document release, some critics have called for him to step down from both his Olympic role and his agency leadership.
Wasserman represents many high-profile artists, including Ed Sheeran, Lorde, Coldplay, and Kacey Musgraves.
Although Chappell Roan was not directly represented by Casey Wasserman himself, she confirmed her departure in a statement shared on Instagram Stories on Monday, February 9.
“As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman,” she wrote.
Roan explained that her decision was rooted in personal values and responsibility to her team.
“I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well,” she said. “No artist, agent, or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.”
She also made it clear that her choice was not a criticism of agency staff.
“I have deep respect and appreciation for the agents and staff who work tirelessly for their artists,” Roan added. “Artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity.”
Roan concluded by saying that real change in the music and entertainment industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust — a message that has resonated widely with fans and fellow artists online.
