A court filing dated Oct. 1 stated that legal counsel believed Jones was pregnant at the time, Us Weekly reported. Authorities have not confirmed whether she was pregnant when she died, and as of Tuesday afternoon, no official cause of death had been released.
The filing was connected to a misdemeanor case in Santa Cruz County, where Jones faced charges including public intoxication and resisting a peace officer. She pleaded not guilty. The documents also referenced the possible use of diversion — a legal option that allows eligible defendants to complete treatment and court supervision in exchange for avoiding a criminal conviction.
Jones, 34, was pronounced dead early Jan. 1 after police and paramedics responded to a report of a medical emergency at the Fairmont San Francisco. Police said there were no signs of foul play and referred the case to the city’s Medical Examiner, which is continuing its investigation.
Following her death, Jones’ family released a brief statement asking for privacy.
“We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers,” the statement said. “Please respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Victoria Jones was the daughter of Tommy Lee Jones, 79, and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. The former couple also share a son, Austin Jones.
As a child, Jones appeared in several acting roles, including alongside her father in Men in Black II, in his 2005 film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which he directed, and on the television series One Tree Hill.
Court records show that in August 2023 — about two years before her death — Tommy Lee Jones successfully petitioned a Marin County judge to place his daughter under a temporary conservatorship. In the filing, he argued that she was engaging in “life-threatening conduct” and urgently needed drug rehabilitation.
The petition stated that Jones was being involuntarily held at a hospital in Greenbrae and sought her immediate transfer to a rehabilitation facility upon release, warning she would face “irreparable harm” without treatment. A judge granted the request and appointed a temporary conservator for her person, but the case was dismissed several months later at her father’s request.
The circumstances surrounding Victoria Jones’ death remain under investigation.
