Timothy Busfield Turns Himself In After Child Sexual Abuse Charges in New Mexico

Actor and director Timothy Busfield has turned himself in to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday. Busfield faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse, according to law enforcement.

Shortly before surrendering, Busfield released a video statement to TMZ, saying he planned to turn himself in and strongly denying the allegations. “I did not do anything wrong,” he said, adding that he drove to Albuquerque after learning of the warrant and hired legal counsel to fight what he called “lies.” Busfield said he expects to be exonerated.

The charges stem from alleged incidents involving two underage actors on the set of The Cleaning Lady, a series produced by Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment. The show aired on Fox from late 2022 through early 2024, and Busfield served as a director on the series.

According to an affidavit from an Albuquerque police investigation, one child alleged that Busfield first touched him on set when he was seven years old, with another incident occurring when the child was eight, again during production. The affidavit describes alleged sexual abuse involving two boys on the show’s set.

As part of the investigation, authorities noted that Warner Bros. Television conducted its own internal review of the allegations. The affidavit also references a separate 2025 inquiry that followed SAG-AFTRA receiving an anonymous complaint related to an alleged incident on the set in December 2024.

In a statement previously obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Television said it is cooperating with law enforcement. “The health and safety of our cast and crew is always our top priority, especially the safety of minors on our productions,” the company said, adding that it takes all misconduct allegations seriously and investigates them promptly.

Busfield has had a long career in television and film. His past credits include a notable role on Thirtysomething, where he also directed episodes, appearances on The West Wing, and film roles such as Field of Dreams.

The case remains under investigation, and Busfield has said he intends to contest the charges in court.
