The Trinidad-born rapper shared a photo of the card on X with the caption, “Welp.” The image appeared to be taken the same day, showing part of her white coat and her multicolored nails, which she wore earlier at the event.
After the post went viral, gaining more than 5.2 million views, Minaj addressed speculation about what the card means. In a follow-up post, she dismissed claims that it was only about residency and said she was finalizing citizenship paperwork. She credited her supporters and referred to herself as “CitizenNIKA,” adding that the Trump Gold Card was received free of charge.
The White House also reshared Minaj’s original post, writing, “oh she’s super BASED,” along with a link to the Trump Gold Card website.
According to the program’s official site, the Trump Gold Card is a visa designed for individuals who can provide a substantial benefit to the United States. Applicants must pay a nonrefundable $15,000 Department of Homeland Security processing fee. After an in-depth background check by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, approved applicants are required to make a $1 million “gift” to the U.S. government. Successful applicants receive lawful permanent resident status through an EB-1 or EB-2 visa.
Earlier that day, Minaj attended the Trump Accounts Summit, an event promoting a proposed investment program for U.S. citizens under the age of 18. The plan would apply to children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, and would start with a one-time $1,000 government contribution.
Minaj said she plans to contribute between $150,000 and $300,000 to the accounts, according to CNBC.
At the summit, Minaj praised Trump and called herself one of his biggest supporters. She said criticism of the president only motivates her to support him more and encouraged others to do the same.
After the event, Minaj and Trump also filmed a TikTok together, where she referred to him as her favorite president and the best president of all time.
