Season 1 of Elle will debut in full on July 1. Production on Season 2 is scheduled to begin this spring.
The series follows Elle Woods during her high school years, exploring the experiences that shaped her into the confident, determined woman audiences first met in the original Legally Blonde. Rising star Lexi Minetree plays the younger version of Elle.
Original film star Reese Witherspoon, who also serves as an executive producer, said returning to the character’s origins has been especially meaningful. She praised Minetree’s performance and said the show highlights themes of kindness, authenticity, and self-belief that made Elle Woods a lasting cultural icon.
The cast also includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt. Other series regulars include Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. Recurring cast members feature familiar names such as James Van Der Beek, David Burtka, and Lisa Yamada.
Amazon MGM Studios’ head of television Peter Friedlander said the early renewal reflects confidence in the creative team and excitement around Elle’s coming-of-age story.
The series was created by Laura Kittrell, who co-showruns with Caroline Dries. Jason Moore directed the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer.
The original Legally Blonde film was released in 2001 and became a box office hit, earning more than $140 million worldwide. It spawned a sequel in 2003, a direct-to-video third film in 2009, and a successful Broadway musical in 2007.
With its July launch and an already-confirmed second season, “Elle” is shaping up to be a major new chapter for the beloved franchise.
