Jennifer Lawrence Says Press Tours Make Her Question Acting, Reveals She Wants to Direct a Comedy

Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about the downsides of movie promotion — and hinting at her next creative step — during a candid appearance on Good Hang, hosted by Amy Poehler.

While continuing her press tour for the upcoming film Die My Love, Lawrence admitted she’s starting to feel worn down by the constant interviews. She joked that every time she promotes a movie, she briefly considers leaving acting altogether.

“I think when I do press I should do half of what normal people do,” Lawrence said. She explained that casual comments often turn into viral headlines taken out of context. “I see my quotes and they are insane. Like, ‘Jennifer Lawrence Calls Kourtney Kardashian Annoying.’ It’s too much… it carries!”

The conversation took a humorous turn when Poehler pointed out Lawrence’s reputation for supporting women in Hollywood. Lawrence responded with sarcasm, joking, “Oh yeah. I do. What do you think… I love white men?” before laughing and adding that they are “so misunderstood.”

On a more serious note, Lawrence reflected on how working with female directors early in her career shaped her view of the film industry. She credited those experiences with making her believe she could someday direct herself.

Her early collaborators included Lori Petty on The Poker House, Debra Granik on Winter’s Bone, Jodie Foster on The Beaver, and Susanne Bier on Serena. Lawrence earned her first Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone.

“My first movie ever was a female director,” Lawrence said. “It was a formative experience. I realized it was possible for me to direct too.”

She added that she has often told directors about her interest in filmmaking beyond acting, and many have welcomed her into the creative process, including post-production.

The biggest revelation came near the end of the podcast: Lawrence confirmed she has written a comedy film that she hopes to both direct and star in. While she didn’t share details about the project, the comment marks a clear sign that her long-standing interest in directing may soon become a reality.

For now, Lawrence remains busy promoting Die My Love — even if, as she admits, the press circuit sometimes makes her dream about doing something else entirely.
