More than three months after her brief but candid on-air reaction during season 34, the 29-year-old singer says she has made peace with the moment — even if she still stands by how she felt.
Jauregui was eliminated in week three of the competition during the TikTok-themed episode on September 30, alongside her professional dance partner, Brandon Armstrong. When asked how she felt immediately after being sent home, she responded with a single word: “Pissed.”
Speaking recently at The Hollywood Reporter and Spotify’s pre–Golden Globes party in Los Angeles, Jauregui reflected on that moment with honesty and humor.
“Time healed the wounds,” she said, before adding that emotions were still raw in the moment. She explained that being eliminated live on television, while feeling vulnerable, made it difficult to filter her reaction. “Don’t ever put a microphone in my face on live camera after you eliminate me,” she joked. “I’m always going to be mad.”
The former Fifth Harmony member admitted she could have been more polished in her response but ultimately doesn’t regret being truthful. “She was pissed,” Jauregui said of herself. “It’s true.”
She previously expanded on the experience in October, explaining that the pressure of live television played a major role. With millions watching, she said her emotions took over before she had time to process them fully. “If I’m thinking it, I’m going to say it,” she explained.
Jauregui also noted that her single “Ego” was released shortly after her DWTS journey ended. Describing the track, she said it focuses on self-reflection and emotional honesty. “It’s about laying down your ego to find a real connection,” she shared. “I think we all need to do that.”
Looking back now, Jauregui appears to view the viral moment as a reflection of authenticity — unfiltered, emotional, and human.
