Kristin Davis Says She’ll Always Be Charlotte, Even After And Just Like That… Ends

Kristin Davis says her connection to Charlotte York will never truly end.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE on Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Golden Globe Awards’ Golden Eve event in Los Angeles, Davis reflected on the conclusion of And Just Like That… and whether it marked the end of an era for her. Her answer was simple: “No.”

Davis, 60, attended the event to present her longtime friend and costar Sarah Jessica Parker with the prestigious Carol Burnett Award. The two actresses have worked together for decades, most notably on Sex and the City and its revival series.

The End of And Just Like That…

And Just Like That…, the revival of Sex and the City, aired its series finale on HBO Max in August after three seasons. The show premiered in December 2021 and revisited the lives of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York Goldenblatt a decade after the events of the 2010 film Sex and the City 2.

The series followed the women as they navigated life, love and friendship in their 50s. Original cast member Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, appeared only in a brief cameo.

The decision to end the show was announced just two weeks before the finale aired. Showrunner Michael Patrick King shared at the time that the creative team felt season 3 provided a natural stopping point for the story. He also explained that the announcement was delayed so the word “final” would not overshadow viewers’ enjoyment of the season.

After the news broke, Davis shared her sadness on Instagram, writing that she loved the cast, crew and fans deeply, and calling the experience profoundly meaningful.

Davis Was “Surprised” by the Decision

Davis later admitted that she was just as shocked as fans by the announcement. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in September, she said she assumed the series would continue beyond three seasons, even though the cast had initially committed to a three-year run.

“That’s just how I am,” she explained, adding that she expected the story to keep going.

Honoring Sarah Jessica Parker

At the Golden Eve event, Davis also spoke warmly about presenting Parker with the Carol Burnett Award. Joking about the idea of lifetime achievement honors, she said the recognition was both surreal and well deserved.

She praised Parker’s impact not only as an actress but also for her role in shaping Carrie Bradshaw as a character. According to Davis, Parker’s influence extended far beyond what audiences saw on screen.

Davis later discussed the emotional moment on her podcast, Are You a Charlotte?, revealing that her biggest challenge was delivering the speech without crying. She wrote the speech herself so it could come directly from the heart — and said she knew she succeeded when Parker was visibly moved.

Both Sex and the City and And Just Like That… are currently streaming on HBO Max.
