During a recent episode of The Five, Conway responded to a TikTok video in which O’Donnell called for the removal of Donald Trump from office. Looking directly at the camera, Conway asked O’Donnell, “Don’t you have anybody who loves you?” She then suggested O’Donnell should get a hobby, a dog — or a husband.
The remark quickly drew backlash online, as O’Donnell has been openly lesbian for decades. Many viewers pointed out that suggesting she “needs a husband” ignores her sexuality and came across as dismissive and outdated.
The comment also raised eyebrows because Conway’s own daughter, Claudia, is a lesbian. Claudia has previously spoken positively about her mother’s acceptance and support of her sexuality, which led some to call Conway’s comment hypocritical.
O’Donnell has long been a vocal critic of Trump, frequently speaking out against him during both of his terms in office. Earlier this year, she moved to Ireland with her child, Clay. In a TikTok video posted in March, O’Donnell said Trump’s presidency played a major role in her decision to leave the United States.
As the clip from The Five continues to circulate, many critics say Conway’s comment reflects a deeper issue with how political disagreements are often reduced to personal attacks rather than meaningful debate.
