Lawrence, 35, shared her thoughts during a recent appearance on the SmartLess podcast, where she spoke candidly about motherhood, work, and family life. Despite continuing to act, she explained that her everyday routine feels far removed from the constant hustle many imagine comes with fame.
“That’s me. I identify as a stay-at-home mom,” Lawrence said. “But I am obviously working.”
The actress is a mother to two sons — Cy, 3, and a younger baby whose name has not been publicly revealed — with her husband, Cooke Maroney.
Lawrence explained that her work schedule is usually very focused and limited. When she films a movie, she works intensely for a few months, then returns to a quieter routine at home.
“I just go to work, I come home, I sleep, and then I do it again,” she said, adding that promotion periods are short but hectic.
She also opened up about co-parenting with Maroney, describing him as her complete opposite. According to Lawrence, her husband brings structure and organization to their household, while she admits she’s more chaotic by nature.
“He’s an anchor,” she said. “Everything is ordered.”
The couple has found balance through routine, including a strict schedule for their children. Still, Lawrence joked that flexibility is key to keeping their marriage strong.
“To keep our marriage alive, I have a 15-minute wiggle room,” she said.
In recent months, Lawrence has become more open about discussing motherhood publicly. During The Hollywood Reporter’s Actress Roundtable, she admitted she once promised herself she would never talk about her children in interviews — but found that motherhood naturally became part of her story.
“I’ll talk about my experience as a mother,” she explained, noting how deeply it has shaped her perspective.
Last year, the Hunger Games star also revealed that she was pregnant with her second child while filming Die, My Love. Speaking to W. Magazine, she described the timing as “real sexy family planning,” adding that being in her second trimester made filming easier and helped her emotionally connect to her character.
Motherhood, Lawrence said, has stripped away ego and changed how she sees the world.
“You’re seeing everything through somebody else’s eyes,” she explained, “somebody who’s so much more important than you are.”
For Lawrence, fame may come and go — but being a mom is the role that defines her most.
