Jacob Elordi Lands in Hospital After Shower Accident While Filming Wuthering Heights

Jacob Elordi suffered a painful on-set injury while filming his upcoming movie Wuthering Heights — and it all stemmed from a change in his shower routine.

In a new interview with Esquire, the 28-year-old actor explained how working on two very different films led to an unexpected medical emergency. Elordi is currently filming Wuthering Heights opposite Margot Robbie, after previously completing 2025’s Frankenstein.

While playing “the Creature” in Frankenstein, Elordi spent up to 10 hours a day in heavy prosthetic makeup. By the end of those long days, he admitted he often didn’t bother fully washing off the makeup from his hands and feet.

That changed on Wuthering Heights, where he plays Heathcliff. For the role, Elordi was routinely covered in dirt and grime and decided to clean himself thoroughly every night before returning to set the next morning.

That decision backfired.

According to Elordi, while washing his feet, he leaned back in the shower and accidentally pressed his back against a hot steam knob. The contact caused a second-degree burn that left him screaming in pain and eventually sent him to the hospital.

“It tore up my back,” he said.

The injury came shortly after makeup artist Siân Miller had been creating fake scars on Elordi’s back for a scene. During the process, she jokingly remarked that if Daniel Day-Lewis were playing Heathcliff, he would show up with real scars. Elordi replied half-jokingly that he would “go away and maim” himself to prove his commitment to the role — an ironic comment given what happened soon after.

The film’s director, Emerald Fennell, has previously hinted that unusual or “spiritual” moments occurred during production, making the accident feel eerily on theme.

This week also marked the start of the Wuthering Heights press tour. At the Los Angeles premiere on Jan. 28, Elordi and Robbie leaned into gothic romance with coordinated red carpet looks. Elordi wore a sleek, all-black Bottega Veneta suit, while Robbie stunned in a lace ombré Schiaparelli gown, accessorized with the Cartier Taj Mahal necklace from the Elizabeth Taylor Archive and Estate.

Elordi, who is nominated for a 2026 Oscar, appears fully recovered and is now focused on promoting the film — hopefully with less dramatic shower experiences going forward.
