Gisele Bündchen’s Family Reportedly Concerned About Marriage to Joaquim Valente

Gisele Bündchen’s family is said to be worried about her decision to marry her partner and jiu-jitsu instructor, Joaquim Valente, according to a new report.

A source told Page Six that members of Bündchen’s family warned her that marrying a man with far less wealth could be a mistake, given her massive fortune. The supermodel is estimated to be worth around $400 million after decades at the top of the fashion industry.

While Valente runs a jiu-jitsu academy in Miami with his brothers and trains celebrity clients, the source claimed Bündchen’s family felt there was a significant imbalance between their financial positions. “Her family told her to just live with him,” the source said, adding that Bündchen’s traditional values and the fact that the couple share a child played a role in her decision to marry.

Bündchen and Valente welcomed a son in February and quietly tied the knot in November. At the time, another source said Valente was thrilled that they married after having a child together.

The report also claims that the couple signed a prenuptial agreement, though it may not fully protect Bündchen’s assets. According to the source, the prenup includes loopholes that could result in a financial settlement for Valente if the marriage ends.

Bündchen became one of the world’s most successful models in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2000, she signed what was then the largest modeling contract in history, a $25 million, five-year deal with Victoria’s Secret. Over the years, she has worked with major brands including Chanel, Pantene, Under Armour, Apple and IWC, and has also held ownership stakes in lingerie and sandal lines.

Family has always been central to Bündchen’s life. She is close with her father, Vladir, and her five sisters — Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela and her fraternal twin, Patricia. In a May 2023 interview with People, Bündchen said, “My family is everything to me and my sisters are my best friends even if sometimes we disagree.”

Bündchen’s mother, Vânia, died in January 2024 at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer.

The model was previously married to former NFL star Tom Brady. The couple divorced in 2022 and share two children, Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13.
