Her death was confirmed by her widower, Thomas, who said she died peacefully after fighting chordoma, a rare form of cancer affecting the spine. She leaves behind two sons, aged nine and seven. The family lived in France.
In a statement reported by the Daily Mail, Thomas said Bibi’s ashes were scattered over the Alps, adding that she is now “with her beloved and loving father.”
Bibi’s existence was first publicly revealed by author Lesley-Ann Jones in her book Love, Freddie, published in September 2025. Until then, Bibi had only been referred to as “B” and had lived her life away from the public eye.
Jones said she was devastated by the loss of a woman she described as a close friend. According to the author, Bibi came forward with the aim of correcting what she believed were decades of misinformation about Mercury’s life.
In May 2025, Bibi revealed that she had taken a DNA test to confirm Mercury was her father. The claim alleged that the Queen frontman fathered a child following a brief relationship with a friend’s wife in 1976. Mercury died on November 24, 1991, aged 45, from bronchial pneumonia related to AIDS.
The book Love, Freddie was reportedly based on 17 volumes of journals Mercury is said to have given to Bibi shortly before his death. In August 2025, Bibi shared emotional reflections on growing up without him, describing the difficulty of grieving her father while the world mourned a global icon.
Jones has said Bibi’s cancer first appeared when she was very young, forcing the family to move frequently in search of the best medical care. After the disease returned following years in remission, Bibi contacted Jones in 2021, and the two worked together for four years to complete the book.
During the final months of her life, Bibi, her husband and their children took what Jones described as a “trip of a lifetime” to South America. Despite her illness, she was able to visit Machu Picchu, a long-held dream, before returning to begin another round of chemotherapy. The book was published shortly afterward.
Claims in Love, Freddie have been strongly disputed by people close to Mercury. His former fiancée Mary Austin said she had no knowledge of any secret child or diaries, calling the idea astonishing.
Similarly, the book’s suggestion that Mercury’s bandmates were aware of Bibi’s existence has been rejected. Brian May’s wife, Anita Dobson, dismissed the claims, saying May believes the story is untrue.
Responding to public demands for DNA evidence, Jones has stated that legal verification was obtained but that such information remains private and will not be released.
In a passage from the book attributed to Bibi, she wrote that Mercury adored her and was devoted to her, adding that while the circumstances of her birth may seem unusual, they never diminished his love or commitment to her.
Bibi’s death closes a chapter on one of the most controversial and emotional claims surrounding the life of Freddie Mercury, a story that continues to divide fans and those who knew him best.
