In a candid video posted to Instagram on Saturday, the former Lost star told her 2.6 million followers that she is working with specialists to address widespread cognitive deficits caused by the injury.
“I am getting experts to tell me how to remedy the deficiencies in my brain at the moment,” Lilly said.
A frightening accident in Hawaii
The actress first disclosed the extent of her condition on Jan. 3, explaining that she fainted on a beach in Hawaii last May and hit her head on a boulder. Subsequent medical scans, she said, revealed that “almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity.”
Nearly a month later, Lilly returned to social media to outline how she is approaching her recovery — not as medical advice, she stressed, but as personal experience she hopes may help others dealing with the aftermath of concussions or TBIs.
“I consider myself one of the extremely fortunate people in this country who can take care of my body the way it needs to be taken care of without money getting in the way,” she said, acknowledging the financial privilege involved in accessing specialized care.
A supplement-heavy recovery plan
Lilly went on to list the supplements she is currently taking, explaining when and how often she uses each. Her regimen includes omega-3 fatty acids, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), creatine, curcumin, and other compounds commonly associated with brain health, inflammation reduction, or neurological support.
“So this is a lot of supplements,” she admitted, adding that she does not plan to take them indefinitely.
“I don’t take supplements on a daily basis. I take them on an as-needed basis,” Lilly explained, saying she intends to stop once she feels her brain has received what it needs.
She also emphasized that she prefers getting nutrients from food whenever possible, describing supplements as a temporary measure rather than a long-term lifestyle.
From Hollywood to a quieter life
Lilly first detailed the beach accident in May on her Substack blog, recalling how medical staff were more concerned with identifying the cause of her blackout than treating the facial injury from the fall.
Even before the incident, the actress had already announced she was stepping away from acting after more than two decades in the spotlight, with credits ranging from Smallville to The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and most recently Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
“Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice — wealth and fame — can feel scary at times,” she wrote at the time. “But stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment.”
While Lilly has not ruled out a return to Hollywood someday, for now she appears focused on healing, reflection, and rebuilding her health — one careful step, and supplement, at a time.
