This week, Brooklyn sparked intense online debate after accusing his parents, Victoria and David Beckham, of ruining his wedding day. In a series of emotional social media posts, he claimed his mother “hijacked” his planned first dance with Nicola and behaved in a way he described as humiliating. Brooklyn also alleged years of control by his parents and said he has decided to cut contact with them.
What DJ Fat Tony says really happened
Appearing on This Morning, DJ Fat Tony—who attended the wedding and later DJed the post-wedding brunch—explained that the issue was not how Victoria danced, but when the moment happened.
According to Tony, singer Marc Anthony, who was performing at the reception, called Brooklyn onto the stage. Guests expected Nicola to join him for their first dance. Instead, Marc Anthony invited Victoria up, calling her “the most beautiful woman in the room.”
Tony said this left Brooklyn devastated, as he believed he was about to share his first dance with his wife. Nicola reportedly left the room in tears. Marc Anthony then instructed Brooklyn to place his hands on his mother’s hips, which Tony described as a “Latin dance thing” that made the situation deeply uncomfortable for many guests.
“There was no outrageous dancing, no costumes, nothing like that,” Tony said. “It was inappropriate because of the timing. Everyone was expecting the bride.”
Fallout after the wedding
Phones were confiscated at the wedding, meaning only official footage exists, which fuelled years of speculation. Tony revealed the atmosphere remained tense the following day during the wedding brunch.
“When the bride and groom leave their wedding devastated, word spreads,” he said, adding that few guests attended the brunch and most conversations centred on the awkward dance and Nicola’s distress.
Tony stressed that Victoria was put in a difficult position and believes the dance itself has become symbolic of much deeper family issues. “The dance is a very small part of a much bigger problem,” he said.
Brooklyn’s perspective
In his own statement, Brooklyn confirmed Tony’s account, saying the dance with his mother replaced what was scheduled to be a romantic moment with Nicola. He described feeling “uncomfortable and humiliated” and said the experience was so painful that he and Nicola renewed their vows privately last year to create happier memories.
“For the first time, I wanted a moment with my wife,” Brooklyn wrote. “Instead, my mum was waiting to dance with me.”
Divided reactions and broken ties
Fat Tony later shared a joking meme online referencing the dance, which reportedly led Victoria and David Beckham to unfollow him on Instagram, ending their long-standing friendship.
Tony’s partner, Stavros Agapiou, who also attended the wedding, publicly supported Brooklyn’s version of events before deleting his comments.
Where things stand now
On television, host Alison Hammond expressed sadness over the situation and offered to mediate between Brooklyn and his parents.
Tony said Brooklyn had tried to address matters privately but felt overwhelmed and chose social media as a way to find closure. He added that the focus on the dance has overshadowed the wider emotional fallout.
“What people are missing is that parents have lost their child, and a son has lost his parents,” he said.
Brooklyn and Nicola were seen publicly together for the first time since the allegations, appearing relaxed while walking their dog on Malibu Beach in California. A source close to the couple said Brooklyn stands by his decision and now wants to focus on his life with his wife.
